Sandy Duncan has had an illustrious Hollywood career, but she may be remembered by a certain generation for her appearance on “Barney.”

Duncan took the role of “Mom” in an early iteration of the series, a stint lasting three episodes that went straight to video.

“When I got there and saw what it was, I went, ‘Oh my God, what have I done?'” Duncan joked on the “Nostalgia Tonight With Joe Sibilia” podcast. “We filmed it, and it was very much a [children’s] show. It ended because I had to go back to work.”

Duncan opted not to reprise her role after the success of the video series, which went on to become “Barney and Friends” on PBS, something she admits she regretted.

But her brief role went platinum in Burt Reynolds house. His son, Quinton, whom he adopted with wife Loni Anderson in 1988, was a superfan of the VHS tape.

“We were at a big gathering, one of those events, and somebody behind my back creeped up and whispered in my ear, ‘I wanted to kill you,’” Duncan revealed. It was Reynolds, and she explained, “Because he had a toddler, and he said, ‘All we have on television is you and Barney.'”

Duncan has done her share of children’s programming, including starring roles in “Peter Pan” on Broadway, and a live-action adaptation of “Pinocchio” for CBS. She also did voice work on “Scooby-Doo” and “The Fox and the Hound.”
