CHICAGO — Konnor Griffin‘s first career hit at Wrigley Field came in unique fashion.

At first glance, it seemed like an ordinary soft blooper into left field, but the Pirates’ rookie shortstop actually made contact with the ball twice on the same swing.

Griffin’s bat broke on initial impact, leading to a double hit that culminated in a 69.3 mph single that fell in front of Cubs left fielder Ian Happ.

It was the fourth hit of Griffin’s young MLB career. Later in the inning, Griffin stole second base — the first steal of his MLB career.
