SAN DIEGO — will be away from the Mariners for at least the next few days, but for happy reasons, as he and his wife were in the process of welcoming their third child on Tuesday.

As such, Refsnyder was placed on the paternity list before Seattle’s three-game series opener against the Padres. In a corresponding move, infielder was selected from Triple-A Tacoma and joined the club at Petco Park.

And to clear a 40-man roster spot for Wisdom, right-hander Blas Castaño — who was also at Tacoma — was designated for assignment.

Wisdom, 34, is only expected to be with the big league team until Refsnyder returns, which at maximum would be a three-day absence. He’s been swinging a hot bat for the Rainiers, leading all of Minor League Baseball with nine homers, to go with 17 RBIs, for a .774 slugging percentage and 1.145 OPS in 62 plate appearances.

“I would say a little nervous, right?” Wisdom said. “But more so excitement and joy, because it’s such a good group in there. And you just walk in, the guys are all excited to see you. That’s always a good sign.”

Conceivably, Refsnyder would rejoin the Mariners on Friday when they return to Seattle, as he likely wouldn’t have seen much action in San Diego anyway, given that the Padres are rolling out three right-handed starters in a row (Michael King, Randy Vásquez and Walker Buehler, in order).

The same goes for Wisdom, who was not in Tuesday’s lineup but will give manager Dan Wilson a right-handed bench bat, which could prove valuable against the Padres bevy of left-handed bullpen arms, headlined by Adrian Morejon.

That came immediately after a stint with the Mariners in 2020, when the former first-round Draft pick (by the Cardinals in 2012) competed for a roster spot in Spring Training, then was at their alternate training site during the pandemic-impacted season but ultimately released that Aug. 14.

Overall, he’s played parts of seven seasons in the Majors, with stints also in Texas (2019) and St. Louis (2018), then spent 2025 in the Korea Baseball Organization and the Mexican Pacific Winter League.

“It’s a cool journey,” Wisdom said. “I think, different paths for different cats, if you want to use that saying. … Baseball has been really kind to me. And I’ve gotten to see the world. I’ve got to meet some really cool people. And I think the journey has been the best part.”

Refsnyder has been the right-handed half of their designated-hitter platoon and has only had 19 plate appearances, with zero hits, three walks and five strikeouts.

Castaño has made six appearances at Tacoma this season, with a 1.42 ERA.
