It’s around 214 miles from Boston to New York City. So it’s not surprising on tonight’s Boston Blue that a homicide that took place in Brooklyn finds itself moving to Beantown and bringing Danny’s former NYPD partner Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) with it.
Maria shows up to help uncover the truth and protect a vulnerable victim in the “For Those Who Weren’t Heard” episode, but also to reconnect with Danny (Donnie Wahlberg).
“She’s in this week’s episode, but she’s coming back for the finale,” Wahlberg tells Parade. “I think if anyone feels sad this week, they’ll probably be happy with [the ending]. That’s all I can say.”
Long-distance romances are notoriously difficult to maintain, so that may be where the sadness comes in. We don’t know for sure if the couple will decide to see other people, or if Maria will consider a move to Boston, but Wahlberg also teases, “Danny knows people in Boston, so maybe he has ways to help her. The Silvers are a generous family. I think there’s a future for them.”
Also coming up is another visit from Erin (Bridget Moynahan), who appeared in the first episode of the season, and will return for the May 1 “L’dor Vador” episode, which involves a captured serial killer and family secrets.
“Erin comes back in a few weeks, and they discuss, ‘Why did you go?” Wahlberg says. “I think you’re going to discover why he really went, and he truly believes he can make a life there without letting go of his life in New York.”

As for whether or not Danny’s New York City-based family will continue to pop up in Season 2, which is already confirmed, Wahlberg says, “If we did a good job in Boston Blue, we don’t need as many guest stars in Season 2, but we can have them in very organic ways. There’s a guest star in the season finale that’s a surprise. It’s a cameo, basically, but it’s so authentic to the story that it made complete sense. Rather than stunt casting, we’re finding ways to make it truthful to the stories. Grandpa Reagan [Len Cariou] came back to help Danny get his shield number as his badge number. Moments like that are very authentic storylines. We will continue to find those.”
Boston Blue airs Fridays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS. Streams next day on Paramount+.
