CREAM, Wis. (WEAU) – In Cream, WI, family and friends have been working hard since yesterday to clean up the destruction of one family’s home.
While no one was injured, the devastation was undeniable.
Kevin Glander, father of one of the homeowners, said he remembers when he found out his daughter’s home had been destroyed.
“My daughter had called me, she’s very upset and crying,” Glander said. “She said, ‘Dad, the neighbor just called and said our house has been leveled.’”
Friday night, community members jumped in to help clean up the tornado’s wake. That effort began again Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
“Today is day two. A lot of people reached out — ‘How can we help you? What do you need?’ and that’s awesome. That’s great,” Glander said.
In addition to donations of food and water for the cleanup, community members have jumped in wherever they can, whether it’s raking up debris, clearing out the house or using the heavy machinery.
“Yesterday we had over 50 people here. Today, we’re doing pretty close to that right now,” Glander said. “It’s just because people care. I really think in this world, sometimes, people don’t care. But I think in this community, they do care.”
Buffalo County also suffered several outages in the area, according to Xcel Energy.
But Buffalo is not alone. Trempealeau County and Jackson County were also damaged in Friday’s tornadoes.
Glander said he hopes the community support will continue in the days, and months, ahead.
