Buc-ee’s seems to be announcing a new store every other day, so you can imagine our surprise to learn that the roadside mecca is actually closing a location. And in Texas, no less! That’s right, after more than 25 years in business. Buc-ee’s just confirmed it will be closing its Port Lavaca, Texas, location.

According to the The Victoria Advocate, a local official confirmed that the former Buc-ee’s will be rebranding as a 7-Eleven, along with a Laredo Taco Company. This new store would become the third 7-Eleven location in Port Lavaca.

“I did get an email from a sign company, on March 16, stating that Buc-ee’s is being rebranded as 7-Eleven with a Laredo Taco,” Derrick Smith, director of the City of Port Lavaca Building and Standards Commission Board, told The Victoria Advocate. Smith also informed the publication that no building permits have been submitted for the project as of yet, but the city was told about signage plans through the March 16 email communication.

Port Lavaca is one of Buc-ee’s smaller convenience store locations, known as Buc-ee’s Store No. 12 at 2318 W. Main St. It’s not one of the larger travel centers that the company is more commonly known for. While it’s incredibly rare for a Buc-ee’s to shutter, this isn’t the first time it has happened. According to Chron.com, other small-format locations in Texas have closed before, including stores in Lake Jackson, El Campo, West Columbia, and Gonzales.

In Texas, there are currently 36 Buc-ee’s in operation, with plans for two more to be added to the Longhorn State in 2027.
