Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter‑day Saints in Marysville, Washington, learned Sunday that a new temple will be built in their city.
The announcement from the First Presidency was shared by Elder Hugo E. Martinez of the United States West Area Presidency during a devotional in the Marysville Washington Stake.
“We are pleased to announce the construction of a temple in Marysville, Washington,” the First Presidency statement says. “The specific location and timing of the construction will be announced later. This is a reason for all of us to rejoice and express gratitude for such a significant blessing — one that will allow more frequent access to the ordinances, covenants and power that can only be found in the house of the Lord.”
This news continues the pattern established by the First Presidency in late 2025 that announcements of new houses of the Lord will be made on location by a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles or a member of the Area Presidency.
This announcement brings the total number of temples — operating, under construction, or announced worldwide — to 384.
“The doctrine of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints centers on the family. Essential to our doctrine on the family is the temple,” President Dallin H. Oaks taught in October 2025. “The ordinances received there enable us to return as eternal families to the presence of our Heavenly Father.”
The temple in Marysville will be Washington’s seventh. The others are the Columbia River, Moses Lake, Seattle, Spokane, Tacoma and Vancouver Temples.
The Church’s history in the state of Washington stretches back to the 1850s. Many Latter-day Saints helped build railroads in the region in the 1880s. In 1930, Church membership in Washington was 1,900 in eight congregations, with chapels in Everett, Spokane, Seattle and Olympia. Many members came to the state with the completion of the Grand Coulee Dam on the Columbia River in the early 1940s. The state’s first temple was completed in Seattle in 1980.
Today, Washington is home to some 278,000 Latter-day Saints in more than 470 congregations.
