Earthquake off Japanese coast prompts tsunami warning for country's north-east - follow live


Earthquake registered 5+ out of 7 on Japanese scale – NHK

We now have more information now from the Japanese
broadcaster NHK on the 7.4 magnitude quake.

It struck at a depth of 10km (6.2 miles ), in waters about
100km off the coast of Sanriku.

The quake registered an intensity of 5+ on the Japanese
seismic scale of 0 to 7, according to NHK.
