Nearly a decade after a tweet posted by a “Jennifer” went viral following a response from CJ McCollum, the Atlanta Hawks shooting guard had a classy message to say to the fan.

Just before Thursday night’s Game 3 of the first-round series between the Hawks and the New York Knicks in Atlanta, McCollum was shown a printed screenshot of his 2018 virtual interaction with Jennifer.

“Jeez, Jennifer. Long lost Jennifer,” McCollum said after seeing the screenshot.

“I hope she’s doing well,” the 34-year-old bucket-getter replied when asked for a message for Jennifer.

As a refresher, the original interaction was prompted when Jennifer told McCollum on Twitter to “Win a playoff game then talk,” as a response to the then-Portland Trail Blazers star’s expressed disfavor for super teams.

Normally, NBA players don’t respond to random folks online, but McCollum took exception during that time and replied to Jennifer with the now-famous line, “I’m trying, Jennifer.”

Well, McCollum is still trying — but with a different team.

McCollum and the Hawks are in the middle of a tough playoff battle with the Knicks. The series was tied 1-1 heading into Thursday’s Game 3. In Game 2, McCollum played a huge role in the Hawks’ 107-106 stunner at Madison Square Garden, scoring 32 points on 12-for-22 shooting from the field with three 3-pointers to go along with six assists, three rebounds, two steals and a block in 35 minutes of action on the floor.

McCollum began the 2025-26 season with the Washington Wizards, who traded him in January to the Hawks along with Corey Kispert to Atlanta in exchange for Trae Young.
