The Detroit Lions had another big decision to make, and they kept it local.

Day 2 of the 2026 NFL Draft is here, with Rounds 2 and 3 starting off today, Friday, April 24 at 7 p.m. The Lions selected Michigan defensive end Derrick Moore with the No. 44 overall pick.

The Lions entered the day with one pick in the second round (at No. 50 overall) and none in the third round after trading both 2026 third-round picks during the 2025 draft. However, the Lions moved up to No. 44 with a trade with the New York Jets to select Moore.

The Lions selected Clemson offensive tackle Blake Miller with the No. 17 overall pick in the first round on Thursday, April 24, filling a much-needed positional gap on the roster. Miller was a four-year starter at right tackle for the Tigers and is likely to play the same position for the Lions in 2026.

Detroit still has needs at linebacker and in the secondary, though it’s unclear which position the team next aims to bolster first through the draft. And though Day 2 may be a relatively quiet day for the Lions, Day 3 will come with a flurry of moves as the Lions entered Friday with seven picks in Rounds 4-7.

We’ll have all the Lions live updates, rumors and analysis from Day 2 of the draft right here.

Lions 2026 NFL Draft Day 2 live updates, rumors

As first reported by NFL insider Albert Breer, the Lions selected Michigan defensive end Derrick Moore with the No. 44 overall pick. Detroit traded the No. 50 and 128 picks to the New York Jets to move up in the second round.

Moore recorded 30 tackles and 10 sacks as a senior with the Wolverines in 2025, serving as a team captain. He appeared in all 15 games in Michigan’s 2023 national championship season and is the sixth former Michigan defensive lineman taken in the last three NFL drafts.

Moore and Aidan Hutchinson could create an Woverines’ edge-rushing tandem for the Lions.

Per NFL Network’s Mike Garafalo, the Lions traded up to No. 44, sending picks No. 50 and 128 to the New York Jets.

The Lions are on the clock.

“Comparison is the thief of joy” is something you might hear from a Zen Buddhist … or the Detroit Lions‘ first-round pick, apparently.

New Lions offensive tackle Blake Miller rejected comparisons to other offensive tackles taken in the draft, though he understood why fans would want to make the comparisons.

“At the end of the day, it all comes back to trying to excel in whatever role you are in, trying to be the best at your game you can be because no two people are ever going to be the same and everyone has different strengths and weaknesses,” he said.

NFL insider Albert Breer says the Lions have “sniffed around” with the intention of moving up in the draft. The Lions currently have just one Day 2 draft pick, coming in at No. 50 overall in Round 2.

With the Lions only possessing one pick over the next two rounds, its possible that GM Brad Holmes will trade some future capital for the right to move up on Day 2 of the draft.

Our Lions insider Dave Birkett lays out some trade possibilities for the Lions, which also includes a scenario where the Lions move down in the second round for future value.

So, who are the Lions taking in the second round?

In his Day 2 mock draft, ESPN’s Matt Miller has the Lions selecting Missouri edge rusher Zion Young.

“Finding a running mate opposite Aidan Hutchinson has been a priority for Detroit since he was drafted,” he writes. “The Lions would have one in Young, a player who projects as a strong three-down defensive end with the strength to be as good against the run as he is in pass-rush settings.”

During his introductory press conference, Lions first-round pick Blake Miller said both Penei Sewell and Tate Ratledge reached out to him after his selection, and that the most “surreal” moment for Miller was getting a text message from quarterback Jared Goff.

Blake Miller’s introductory phone call

The Lions posted a video of first-round pick Blake Miller speaking on the phone with general manager Brad Holmes, coach Dan Campbell and owner Sheila Hamp, with Holmes providing the opening statement on Miller’s career.

“You ready to be a Lion?”
