A fun behind-the-scenes story from Cody Rhodes has given a funny look at what goes on behind the scenes on WWE’s corporate jet, and it includes Vince McMahon blasting John Cena’s music at full volume during a flight.

Cena’s album, You Can’t See Me, came out on May 10, 2005. It wasn’t just a fun side project for Cena. He self-financed it, released it, and even performed it in front of live crowds- just like a proper hip-hop artist. And the album actually did really well.

It reached No. 15 on the Billboard 200 and later went platinum, selling over 1.3 million copies. It also included Cena’s famous entrance theme, The Time Is Now, along with songs like Bad, Bad Man and Right Now. The album became a big part of Cena’s character and helped boost his rise in WWE.

Interestingly, Vince wasn’t always sure about Cena’s rap-style character in the beginning. Early on, Cena even had more generic music that didn’t match his personality. But once he started making his own music and fully committed to the “word-life”, McMahon changed his opinion.

By the time the album was released, McMahon apparently became one of Cena’s biggest fans.

Cody Rhodes shares Vince McMahon story involving John Cena’s music on WWE jet

Speaking on his podcast, What Do You Wanna Talk About, along with Liv Morgan, Cody Rhodes shared a story he heard from his father, Dusty Rhodes. It goes back to 2005, when Cena released his album.

At that time, Cena was already getting popular with his “Doctor of Thuganomics” character, but no one expected his music to become such a big deal backstage, especially with Vince McMahon.

According to Rhodes, McMahon played Cena’s album on the company jet at full volume.

“When the album first came out, when John did that album, most people know he self-financed it and did everything himself. When that album first came out, Vince was such a fan of it that he played it on the corporate jet at max. My dad had just come back to work here and he couldn’t tell if it was a rib or it was like, ‘Oh, this is what these jet rides are like?’ It’s just so loud. Like the whole flight, ‘What? John was on the flight too?’” Rhodes said.

This story also shows the kind of relationship McMahon had with Cena. Cena has often said he saw him as a mentor and someone who helped shape his career.
