East 12th Street remained blocked between Chicon and Alamo streets on Sunday night as Austin police investigated a reported shooting in the area.

Austin police said the shooting happened in front of of Sam’s BBQ, a beloved East Austin restaurant located at 2000 E. 12th St. Two people were injured and taken to area hospitals. Police did not provide details on their injuries.

Multiple social media users reported hearing shots fired in the area near Sam’s on Sunday night.

An employee of Austin Daquiri Factory, which shares a building with Sam’s, told the American-Statesman there was a shooting on East 12th Street, but the employee declined to comment further out of concern for those affected.

Earlier Sunday, the daiquiri shop posted a social media video promoting a “Sunday Funday” event from 4 to 8 p.m. with crawfish, music, barbecue and a mechanical bull contest. Police said officers responded to reports of a shooting around 8:30 p.m.

Law enforcement said there is no immediate danger to the public. Police are still investigating.
