FRONT ROYAL, Va. (WHSV) – It is the calm before the storm as the town of Front Royal is making final preparations to welcome King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

Roads are closed, no-parking signs are posted throughout the area, and crews have been battling the rain to put the finishing touches in place since 3:00 a.m. Wednesday.

For a lifelong resident of Front Royal and owner of the local business AllClaimsPro, Larry Urgo said the excitement of having such a prominent figure in his hometown is through the roof, with the visit officially announced earlier in the week.

“I was talking with some of my workers. There had been some grumblings and rumors floating around, but I think the Secret Service and some of the other agencies have been around and have done a really good job at keeping it under wraps,” Urgo said.

While Wednesday afternoon was somewhat of a ghost town, Thursday in the small town of Warren County will be packed with visitors hoping to get a glance of the couple.

This also means security will be on high alert with checkpoints and protection all throughout the area. But for Urgo, he’s excited for himself and fellow Front Royal residents to see a world icon the way folks did back in April 1950 when Bing Crosby visited the Town of Front Royal.

“As somebody who’s lived here for a while, walking around and talking with other business owners, we always hear about the days when Bing Crosby came through Front Royal and how cool of an event that was and so it’s pretty cool to partake in our own right with a very influential and famous person coming through our main street,” Urgo said.
