Tamara Korpatsch came back from a set down to beat Spanish local hope Marina Bassols Ribera 3-6, 6-0, 6-4 on Saturday and reach the final of the Catalonia Open Solgironès in Girona, the third final of her career and the second of 2026.
The 30-year-old German, ranked No 99, lost the first set before producing two dominant sets to close it out. Bassols Ribera, ranked No 183 and playing in front of a home crowd in Catalonia, had been the story of the week – she had beaten No 5 seed Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-2, 6-1 in the quarter-finals and pushed Korpatsch hard in the opener before running out of steam.
Korpatsch won her only WTA title at Cluj-Napoca in 2023 and reached her second career final in Ostrava in February 2026, losing on that occasion. She arrives in Sunday’s final with momentum and an opportunity to claim her second tour-level title.
She faces Australian Daria Kasatkina, the No 7 seed, who has won four WTA titles and brings considerably more experience to a final on a surface she handles well.
