Cubs left-hander Matthew Boyd is going to undergo surgery to address an injury to the meniscus in his left knee. His current timetable is unknown. Manager Craig Counsell provided the update to reporters, including Jesse Rogers of ESPN. Right-hander Trent Thornton will be selected to the roster when Boyd hits the injured list, per Jordan Bastian of MLB.com. The Cubs will need to open a 40-man spot for Thornton.
More to come.
