The Minnesota Twins logged two hits against Cleveland Guardians pitching on May 9.
And that’s all they needed in a 2-1, 11-inning win at Progressive Field.
Byron Buxton opened the game with a leadoff home run and then did in the Guardians (21-20) in the 11th.
Peyton Pallette (1-2) navigated the 10th fine but gave up a one-out double to Buxton to score Matt Wallner, who opened the inning at second.
The Guardians loaded the bases three times, including the ninth and 10th inning and didn’t score.
Cleveland was 1-for-15 with runners in scoring position and left 13 runners on base.
Tanner Bibee pitched six innings of fantastic ball. The right-hander went six innings of one-hit ball. He struck out a season high nine and walked two. The only hit Bibee allowed was a home run to Buxton to start the game.
Hunter Gaddis, Colin Holderman and Erik Sabrowski picked up where Bibee left off. They went three innings of no-hit ball, didn’t walk a batter and struck out five before extra innings lifted split the three-game series for the Twins (17-23).

Byron Buxton sendt Tanner Bibee’s 1-1 pitch 378 feet to left to give the Twins a 1-0 lead. His 13th home run had an exit velocity of 97.6 mph. It was his second leadoff home run of the season and 22nd of his career.

Diamond dry has been soaked into the infield and they’re finishing up the mound at Progressive Field. We’re ready for an 8:15 p.m. start under sunny skies in Cleveland. The delay was two hours and six minutes.
First pitch is slated for 8:15 p.m. between the American League Central Division leading Cleveland Guardians and Minnesota Twins.
It didn’t take long for newest catcher Patrick Bailey to become a fan of the Guardians. Bailey, who came in a trade with the San Francisco Giants, was on hand to talk to the media and raved about being in Cleveland.
It’s bright blue skies with a few clouds in Cleveland right now. The problem is in about 70 minutes another front looks like it’s going to hit. Add the 30-minute window to get the field game ready and we might be waiting longer.
According to Weather.com, rain looks like it will exit at 7:10 p.m. but come back 70 minutes later. Progressive Field should be dry just a little after 9 p.m.
The public address announcer has asked everyone to walk to the nearest stairwell or ramp. The Guardians received information from the national weather service with severe weather imminent.
The potential of rain still has the game in a rain delay at 6:15, five minutes after the schedule start time.
First pitch was scheduled for 6:10 p.m. ET.

Guardians Right-hander Tanner Bibee (0-5, 4.68) looks for his first win in eight starts this season. He faces right-hander Joe Ryan (2-3, 3.72), who hasn’t won since April 11 and is 0-2 in his last four starts.
Earlier Saturday, the Guardians shook up their roster by trading for catcher Patrick Bailey and optioning catcher Bo Naylor to Triple-A Columbus. In the deal to acquire the two-time Gold Glove-winning catcher from the San Francisco Giants, the Guardians sent them the No. 29 pick in this year’s draft and left-handed pitching prospect Matt “Tugboat” Wilkinson.
