Martin Short’s daughter Katherine Hartley Short dies
Martin Short’s eldest daughter, Katherine Hartley Short, died at 42.
Martin Short is appearing publicly for the first time since the death of his daughter, Katherine Hartley Short, with his loved ones at his side.
The “Only Murders in the Building” actor, 76, returned to the public eye for the Los Angeles premiere of his upcoming Netflix documentary, “Marty, Life Is Short,” in Hollywood on Wednesday, May 6, during the Netflix is a Joke Festival. The comedian’s two sons, Oliver and Henry Short, joined him on the carpet and posed together for photos.
The family was all smiles, with Short wearing a black suit and a glen check tie, with his sons – accompanied by their wives – in purple and navy suits. Selena Gomez, Kate Hudson, Billy Crystal, Eugene Levy and other famous friends also attended the premiere in support.
The documentary, directed by longtime friend Lawrence Kasdan and set to be released May 12, comes nearly three months after the death of Katherine Hartley Short at 42.
Short’s representative confirmed the news to USA TODAY in a statement on Tuesday, Feb. 24. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed the licensed clinical social worker’s manner of death was determined to be suicide, according to the department’s website.
A Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson confirmed to USA TODAY that officers responded to “a radio call of a possible suicide attempt” on Hartley Short’s block in the Hollywood Hills around 6:43 p.m. on Feb. 23 and “found a deceased female at the location.”
Short’s late wife, Nancy Dolman Short, died in August 2010 following a battle with ovarian cancer. They welcomed all three of their children via adoption.
