The governor ordered for flags at all state buildings to be lowered from sunrise to sunset on May 15.
PHOENIX — Flags positioned outside state buildings across Arizona will be lowered on May 15 as a tribute to fallen police officers.
Gov. Katie Hobbs ordered for flags to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset in honor of National Peace Officers Memorial Day, an annual observance that was established in the 1960s through a proclamation signed by President John F. Kennedy.
The observance is meant to recognize all state, federal and municipal law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.
Local residents and businesses are encouraged to participate in the tribute.
“Every day, we are grateful for the men and women in law enforcement who make sacrifices to keep Arizonans and Americans safe,” Hobbs said in a statement. “We stand with and mourn alongside the families, colleagues and communities who have lost loved ones in law enforcement.”
