SEARSMONT, Maine — State fire marshal’s office investigators are responding to a serious incident Friday at Robbins Lumber in Searsmont.
Fire investigators were requested Friday to respond to the facility on Main Street.
The Maine Department of Public Safety confirmed that fire marshal’s office investigators were called to Robbins Lumber and are currently responding to the scene.
Tiffany Mannarini shared video of a massive fire coming from the mill. She said she took the video from Appleton Ridge.
Gov. Janet Mills posted a statement to social media just before noon after learning about the incident.
“I have been briefed on the situation unfolding in Searsmont. I urge folks to stay clear of the area, follow the instructions of law enforcement, and allow emergency personnel to respond. I ask Maine people to join me in keeping all those affected in their thoughts.”

Live radar just before noon Friday shows a smoke plume in the area. NEWS CENTER Maine meteorologists say that means the top of the plume reaches about 4,000 feet up.
Robbins Lumber Inc. owns and manages 30,000 acres of its own forests and buys logs from over 150 independent loggers, according to its website.
Milling operations are located on a 40-acre site in Searsmont that includes a co-generation plant, 675,000 board foot capacity kilns, computerized sawmill, planing mills, cut up shop, 70,000 square feet of warehouse, and the company’s general offices.
