MCCOMB, Miss. (WLBT) – Local civil rights activist Brenda Travis has died. She was 81 years old.
As a teenager in McComb, Travis made the decision to stand against injustice, to push for voting rights and equality.
Her courage led to a protest after her expulsion from school when she was 15 years old.
Travis was arrested for attempting to purchase a white bus ticket.
One group says her legacy shows young people are not too small to create change. Her story lives in every space where we encourage children to speak boldly, think freely, create fearlessly, and imagine a more just future.
