Judge denies Caneiro a new trial, citing defense attorney’s ‘failures’
FREEHOLD — A Superior Court judge on April 23 denied Paul Caneiro’s motion for a new trial and scheduled his sentencing for the quadruple murders of his family members for May 19. Superior Court Judge Marc C. Lemieux, in denying the motion in a written opinion, rejected arguments from Caneiro’s defense attorneys that he denigrated them in front of jurors throughout the trial, thereby prejudicing the outcome.
