In early February, YouTube announced flexible plans for its YouTube TV service allowing customers to create bundles centered on what they truly watch the most.

“TV should be easy, and with YouTube TV Plans launching this week, we’re giving customers more control over their subscriptions,” the company said in a statement at the time. “Over the next several weeks we are rolling out 10+ plans across Sports, News, Entertainment and Family content, priced lower than the main YouTube TV Plan.”

New Channel Added to Sports Plan

Just over two months into the new venture, CordCutters News is reporting YouTube TV added a new channel to the sports plan.

“YouTube TV has announced the inclusion of the ION channel in its sports package, marking a significant step forward for subscribers seeking comprehensive access to women’s professional basketball,” it said.

ION Previously Announced New WNBA Deal

The move to include ION in the YouTube TV sports package is a welcomed sight for WNBA fans who have a litany of channels to track down in order to watch their favorite team.

In 2025, ION announced a new deal to broadcast WNBA regular-season games on Friday nights after the league and Scripps reached a multiyear media rights deal.

“This new multi-year agreement reflects the growing excitement surrounding the league and the rising demand for WNBA games,” WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert said in a statement at the time. “Through Scripps’ ION Network Friday Night doubleheaders, we will continue to showcase the world-class talent of WNBA athletes to even more fans nationwide.”

ION initially began airing WNBA game on Friday nights in 2023, with the initial three-year agreement reportedly worth $13 million annually.

Details of the new deal were not provided, but given the spike in popularity of the league, the new deal was likely much more expensive.
