Communities across Pennsylvania and New Jersey are preparing for Memorial Day ceremonies and parades on Monday to honor military members who died while serving the country.

Here are some of the events scheduled across the region:

Camden County

The Haddonfield Memorial Day parade has been canceled. But, Haddonfield American Legion Post 38 will host its annual Memorial Day ceremonies at 10 a.m. Monday at American Legion Post 38 on Veterans Lane in Haddonfield.

The event includes a wreath-laying ceremony honoring past commanders.

Winslow Township officials and veterans will also gather Monday at 10 a.m. for a Memorial Day service at the Municipal Complex War Memorial on Route 73 in Braddock, Camden County.

Cherry Hill officials and local veterans organizations will also gather Monday morning for the township’s annual Memorial Day ceremony honoring military members who died while serving the country.

The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. Monday and will be held rain or shine.

Because of the weather forecast, officials said the event will begin inside the Carman Tilelli Community Center on Mercer Street before concluding at the township’s war memorial. Attendees are encouraged to bring an umbrella or raincoat if needed.

Mayor David Fleisher, Township Council members, American Legion Post 372 and the Jewish War Veterans of the USA Furer-Barag-Wolf Post 126 are expected to participate in the ceremony.

This year’s keynote speaker is Karen Flaherty-Oxler, medical center director at the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center and a retired rear admiral in the U.S. Navy.

Officials said the ceremony is sponsored by DeChristopher Brothers Monuments & Memorials, Mission BBQ and Wegmans.

Handicap and general parking will be available at the Cherry Hill Municipal Complex and along Dover, Graham and Mercer streets.

Montgomery County

The annual Collegeville-Trappe Memorial Day Parade is scheduled for Monday morning. Main Street between Linfield-Trappe Road and First Avenue will be closed from 9:45 a.m. to 11 a.m. because of the parade.

Delaware County

Radnor Township’s Memorial Day Parade will begin at 9:45 a.m. Monday in Wayne. The parade starts at the Radnor Financial Center and travels west along Lancaster Avenue before ending at the Radnor War Memorial.

Officials said East Lancaster Avenue will be closed between Radnor Chester Road and Bloomingdale Avenue from 9 a.m. until about 11 a.m.

Students at the Haviland Avenue School in Audubon, New Jersey, on Friday, held a concert to perform patriotic songs to help celebrate the upcoming Memorial Day holiday. 

In Media Borough, the Delaware County Memorial Day Parade steps off at 10 a.m. Monday from the Media Theatre on State Street and ends at the Delaware County Courthouse on Front Street.

Brigadier General Frank J. McGovern IV, assistant adjutant general for the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, will serve as grand marshal. Gold Star Mother Judy Faunce is expected to speak during the ceremony following the parade.

Philadelphia

The United Veterans of Bridesburg will host the neighborhood’s 80th annual Memorial Day Parade beginning at 10 a.m. Monday near the Betsy Ross Bridge.

The judging stand will be located at Richmond and Orthodox streets.

Bucks County

Warminster Township’s annual Memorial Day ceremony begins at 10 a.m. Monday at the township building on Gibson Avenue.

The ceremony will include remarks from elected officials and keynote speaker Jonathan Bittner, an Army veteran who served in Afghanistan and now works as a mental health therapist specializing in trauma care for veterans, first responders and their families.

A parade will follow at approximately 11 a.m.

Doylestown is also hosting its parade for 158th year, continuing one of the nation’s oldest Memorial Day traditions.

Organizers said the annual event is held to honor American veterans whose sacrifices helped protect the country and its democratic ideals.

The day begins with a flag-raising ceremony at War Memorial Field before the parade steps off from Central Bucks High School West.

The parade route travels east on West Court Street, east on West State Street, north on Main Street and east on East Court Street before ending at Doylestown Cemetery.

A 30-minute memorial service will follow at the cemetery, where the United Veterans of Doylestown will lay wreaths in honor of fallen service members.

Officials said parking will not be permitted along the parade route beginning at 5 a.m. Monday. Vehicles left along the route after that time will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Free parking for attendees will be available in the Bucks County parking garage at Broad, Doyle and Union streets beginning at 9 a.m. through one hour after the parade concludes.

Jersey Shore

In North Wildwood, VFW Post 5941 will host a Memorial Day ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday at Veterans Memorial Park.

Wildwood’s annual Memorial Day ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. on the front lawn of American Legion Post 184.

Sea Isle City’s annual Memorial Day ceremony begins at 10 a.m. Monday at Veterans Park. The event includes patriotic music, guest speakers and a floral tribute procession to the beach.

Ocean City officials announced the city’s Memorial Day ceremony has been moved indoors because of the weather forecast. The event will now take place at 11 a.m. Monday at the Ocean City Tabernacle on Wesley Avenue.

Burlington County

Willingboro Township’s annual Memorial Day observance is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Millcreek Park.

Dr. Maurice A. Mimms Sr. will serve as keynote speaker during the ceremony honoring fallen service members and their families.

Americans are also encouraged to participate in the National Moment of Remembrance at 3 p.m. Monday by pausing for one minute to honor those who died in military service.
