Christian Bale‘s latest box office flop just pulled off an unexpected streaming comeback overnight. The gothic romance found new life on a major platform, climbing straight to the top of the charts.
The Bride! is trending on top after HBO Max debut
Currently, The Bride! sits at #1 on the ‘HBO Max Top 10 Movies in the United States’ chart. FlixPatrol data from May 25, 2026, confirms the film claimed the top spot soon after its release on the platform. The Maggie Gyllenhaal-directed gothic romance also ranks #3 on the HBO Max Overall chart from Amazon Channels.
The film stars Jessie Buckley in a dual role alongside Christian Bale, Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Penelope Cruz. Maggie Gyllenhaal also wrote the movie, which draws inspiration from the 1935 Bride of Frankenstein. Warner Bros. Pictures distributed the film theatrically starting March 6, 2026.
The Bride! arrived on digital streaming on April 7, 2026, before landing on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD on May 19. Its streaming debut follows a difficult theatrical run that saw the film gross just $24 million worldwide. The production carried a budget between $80 million and $90 million, according to industry reports.
The film earned around $7 million during its domestic opening weekend, placing third behind Hoppers and Scream 7. Deadline reported the film could lose approximately $90 million. Its second weekend saw around 70% drop, grossing only $2.1 million domestically (via Forbes).
Critics delivered divided responses to the film. On Rotten Tomatoes, 57% of 325 critics’ reviews are positive. Metacritic assigned it a score of 55 out of 100 based on 55 critics. CinemaScore audiences gave the film an average grade of “C+” on an A+ to F scale.
The film’s streaming performance now offers a second life after its underwhelming theatrical run. It is now streaming on HBO Max.
