ORLANDO, Fla. – The News 6 Weather Team has issued Weather Aware Days for the rest of this week and into the weekend as a plethora of tropical moisture makes its way into Florida from the Caribbean. This will increase rain chances considerably as we end the week and move into the weekend.

A Weather Aware Day is when we expect the weather pattern to impact your day-to-day life more than a typical day in Central Florida. However, we are not anticipating a significant severe weather threat. Expect rounds of heavy rainfall with gusty winds at times and the potential for frequent lightning over the next few days.

Your Thursday will start off with more cloud cover but mainly dry conditions with temperatures holding around 80ºF for the morning drive. With our steering flow flipped, flowing from west to east, the storms will develop around the I-75 corridor around lunch time. These storms will traverse eastward, hovering over the I-4 corridor around 2-4pm, and favoring the I-95 corridor and coastline from 5-8pm. Rain chances are as high as 80%.

Our rain chances stay elevated through the weekend and into early next week as this river of tropical moisture remains locked over Central Florida.

Through Sunday, we expect area-wide rain totals amounting to 3-5″ with localized areas potentially seeing higher than that. Localized flooding is a concern we will monitor pushing into the weekend.
