MADISON, Wis. — The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is responding after a flight was diverted to the Dane County Regional Airport following an incident, the sheriff’s office confirmed to News 3 Now.
The sheriff’s office was not aware of any injuries or threats to the general public stemming from the incident.
Online flight logs show a United Boeing 737-900 series aircraft, which is configured to carry 179 passengers, took off from Chicago’s O’Hare Airport bound for Minneapolis but diverted to Madison.
In an update, a Dane County Regional Airport spokesperson said an unruly passenger was detained and handcuffed on the flight by off-duty officers. Federal authorities are taking over proceedings.
Passengers on the flight were forced to deplane, and United Airlines is working to ensure they reach their destination.
