The Green Bay Packers are trying to upgrade their pass rush for the 2026 NFL season by trading for an edge rusher from the NFC West.

The Los Angeles Rams are set to acquire edge rusher Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. If the trade goes through, Garrett will head to Los Angeles to compete for a Super Bowl, with Jared Verse and premium draft capital heading to Cleveland.

Even though the Rams deal for Garrett has yet to be finalized, it looks like the rest of the NFC has been put on notice, and the Packers are trying to make a move themselves for a star pass rusher.

According to Easton Butler of Packer Report, the Packers are discussing a trade for edge rusher Josh Sweat with the Arizona Cardinals.

The holdup preventing the deal right now is the draft compensation heading back to Arizona and how much cap space Green Bay is willing to take on to add Sweat.

“Hearing the Packers and Cardinals are working on a trade involving Josh Sweat, per source. It is coming down to how much cap the Packers are willing to take, and how high of a pick,” Butler said.

Sweat hasn’t been in attendance at Cardinals OTAs, and it has been reported that he quietly requested a trade from the Cardinals after the firing of Jonathan Gannon.

Now, it looks like Sweat could be reuniting with Gannon, who was hired as the Packers’ defensive coordinator after being let go by the Cardinals. Sweat and Gannon also spent time together with the Philadelphia Eagles, so the two know each other very well.

Sweat has been one of the most consistent pass rushers in the NFL over the last few years. The veteran tallied 12 sacks in 2025 and has posted over 6.5 sacks in each of the last four seasons.

Though he isn’t on the level of Myles Garrett, Sweat would still be a fantastic addition to Green Bay’s defense and address a glaring need on Gannon’s unit.
