Antoine Griezmann recently confirmed that his biggest dream is to play for a club in the MLS, but an “unexpected alternative” has now emerged in the race for his signature.
Griezmann, whose contract with Atletico Madrid expires in 2027, has been open about his desire to one day play in the United States.
Griezmann, who has scored 200 goals in 461 games for Atletico during his two spells at the club, is contracted to the Spanish side until June 2027, but he will inevitably be linked with a move away in the coming months.
In fact, according to the Spanish media Transfers, he is expected to begin a new chapter in his career when the 2025–26 season ends.
The experienced striker “seems ready to take on a new challenge away from Metropolitano”, according to the report, which claims an “unexpected alternative” has emerged in Copa Libertadores champions Flamengo.
Flamengo are currently experiencing a period of financial expansion and believe that Griezmann, a player capable of making a difference on and off the pitch, would be a huge boost for their ongoing project.
Of course, Griezmann’s former teammate Felipe Luis is the coach of Flamengo. The pair are said to share a great relationship, which could play a key role in convincing him to make the move.
The World Cup winner would also reunite with Samuel Lino and Saul Níguez if he decides to join the Brazilian club.Telegraph/
