Steven R. Sykes, age 76, of Troy, OH passed away unexpectedly on December 17, 2025 at his residence. He was born on July 29, 1949 in Piqua, OH to the late Raymond and Virginia (Hogston) Sykes. 

He is survived by his wife of 14 years of marriage: Margaret D. “Maggie” (Dumper) Sykes; son and daughter-in-law: Christopher and Stacy Sykes of Greenville; daughters: Megan Myers and Beth Anne Myers both of Troy; grandchildren: Alexia (Brad Baker) Sykes of Greenville, Brandon (Fiance’ Taylor Harvey) Sykes of Virginia Beach, VA and Asia (Trey Frech) Sykes of Greenville; great granddaughter: Adah Jean Frech and brother: Kerry (Sandy) Sykes of Urbana. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 38 years: Donna Lea (Houchen) Sykes and sister: Tammarra Kuntzman.

He was a 1967 graduate of Piqua Central High School. He received his Associates of Science Degree from Edison State Community College and Bachelors of Science and Masters of Business Administration from Bluffton University. He served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War and following in the National Guard.

He was a faithful member of SonRise Church. He served as a Pastor with the Troy and Piqua Freewill Baptist Churches and Troy Gospel Tabernacle for a total of 23 years. He was employed for many years as a Plant Manager with French Oil. After retirement in 2000, he served as Professor of Manufacturing/Industrial Management with Edison State Community College.

He was an avid golfer and Harley rider. He was an instructor for motorcycle riding for the State of Ohio and Harley Davidson. He also enjoyed camping. Steve took the Honor Flight to Washington, DC with fellow veterans.

Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, December 22, 2025 at the First United Methodist Church in Troy with interment to follow in Miami Memorial Park, Covington, OH. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM -5:00 PM on Sunday, December 21, 2025 at Baird Funeral Home, Troy, OH.
