Korean tech giant hiring hookup managers and engieers
Samsung is expected to install production equipment at its fab in Austin, Texas for the production of CMOS image sensors (CIS) that will be supplied to Apple for iPhones.
Last week, the South Korean tech giant has place job postings for mechanical and electrical project managers to work on hookup at the fab.
Hookup is done to build pipelines for utilities such as gas and water that will be used at facilities. Managers for this handles opinions of designers, suppliers and equipment engineers.
The hiring post also means the foundation work for the cleanroom is wrapping up. Equipment are placed after hookup is completed.
Samsung is also hiring technicians and engineers for cleaning equipment, which are used to clean the surface of silicon wafers.
Impurities such as unwanted oxide layers and defective metal can cause circuit defects. The cleaning process accounts for up to 40% of the process steps taken during the production of chips.
Earlier this month, Samsung notified the city council of Austin that is spending US$19 billion in its Austin facility. The funds is for repair and maintenance and for the purchase of advanced equipment.
Sources said this additional investment is related to its new deal secured in August to supply Apple with CIS.
Samsung is expected to use wafer-to-wafer hybrid bonding where three wafers are stacked to manufacture the new CIS. Each wafer will be for photodiode, transistor and analog/digital converters. This structure allows for the pixels to be smaller with lower noise.
This new CIS line is expected to start operations in March at the earliest.
