After Jannik Sinner secured a first ever Monte Carlo title, the clay court season continues this week with ATP 500 events in Barcelona and Munich. While the Barcelona field looks stronger on paper, Munich also has its fair share of strong clay court players and should be a very entertaining tournament, full of great matches and unpredictable outcomes.

ATP Munich Day 1 Predictions

Gabriel Diallo vs Vitaliy Sachko

Head-to-head: Sachko 1-0 Diallo

Diallo had an excellent 2025 but has been struggling thus far in 2026, barely winning any matches. While the Canadian is the much stronger player of the two in general, Sachko has been getting some solid results on clay, albeit in lower-level events, and is bound to come into this match with more momentum and confidence. All things considered, it could well be a very close match, decided by small details and execution on big points.
Prediction: Sachko in 3

Jan-Lennard Struff vs Francisco Cerundolo

Head-to-head: Cerundolo 1-0 Struff

Their one previous meeting occurred last year in Munich, with Cerundolo dropping only two games. While it is unlikely to be that one sided this time around, the truth is Struff’s wheels seem to be finally falling off, while Cerundolo has firmly established himself as a top 20 level player who is especially dangerous on clay. Under normal circumstances, it will be the Argentine advancing here.

Michelsen is yet to win a set in this matchup and, while clay could provide a good opportunity to flip the script on Rinderknech, the truth is Michelsen himself isn’t quite comfortable on this surface. With that said, this should be closer than their previous encounters and a win would be huge for either player, with both yet to get any really big results so far in 2026.
Prediction: Rinderknech in 3
