Britney Spears was unaware that her ex-husband, Sam Asghari, is from Iran, according to Rob Shuter.

In the Monday, March 2, edition of the Naughty But Nice Substack, sources claim that the princess of pop, 44, only recently realized where the model, 31 — whom she was married to from 2022 to 2024 — is really from.

“She said, ‘Wait… where is that?’” one source revealed, explaining the singer, “wasn’t being shady,” as “geography just isn’t her thing.”

A second source shared that the Grammy Award winner “thought he was Spanish.”

“She literally pulled out her phone and said, ‘Show me on the map,’” the source added. “That’s when it clicked.”

In the past, the “Toxic” hitmaker has made posts about Iran, including an October 2022 message on X, which read, “Me & my husband stand with the people of Iran fighting for freedom.”

However, a third insider alleged that “Britney didn’t draft those herself,” noting “she often has help with posts, especially anything political or sensitive.”

“If she truly understood he was from Iran at the time, she wouldn’t have been asking where it was on a map years later,” a fourth source insisted. “That tells you everything.”

Asghari was born in Tehran and fled to America as a teenager. He met Spears on the set of her “Slumber Party” music video in 2016. The pair wed in June 2022, and The Traitors alum filed for divorce a little over a year later in August 2023.

As Star reported in August 2025, Spears took to Instagram, writing that her marriage to Asghari “felt like a fake distraction” for her to “cope” with not having her sons Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19 — who she shares with ex-husband Kevin Federline — around.

That month, Asghari responded to his ex-wife’s comments via a statement to People through his rep.

“Our marriage was very real to me,” the statement read. “It may have been short, but we were together for seven years. I was in love with her, will always have love for her, and wish her the best always.”
