Luke Grimes explains Kayce’s emotional path in “Marshals” and why the character will never sing on the “Yellowstone” spinoff.
The first season of “Marshals” is coming to an end this weekend, and the upcoming finale may bring one of the show’s biggest confrontations yet.
The Season 1 finale, titled “Wolves at the Door,” airs Sunday, May 24, on CBS and follows a growing conspiracy tied to Broken Rock after another assassination attempt targets chairman Rainwater, played by Gil Birmingham.
According to CBS, Kayce Dutton, played by Luke Grimes, steps in to protect Rainwater while the Marshals race to uncover who is behind the attack.
What happened in the last episode of ‘Marshals?’
Episode 12 of “Marshals” follows the team as they uncover a large drug cache, leading them to discover that a cartel has infiltrated the Broken Rock reservation after one of Miles’ friends dies from an overdose.
The team soon learns that Miles, played by Tatanka Means, has gone rogue while attempting to track down the traffickers on his own. They set out to find him and are met with a shootout in the woods, resulting in the deaths of several cartel members and the capture of another.
Later in the episode, the audience watches as Kayce grapples with one of the hardest choices of his life: whether to sell the East Camp, the last remaining piece of his family’s land and a 140-year legacy he held onto after selling the Yellowstone Ranch to the reservation.
What does the season finale hint at?
According to recent reports, the cast has confirmed that audiences can expect a cliffhanger at the end of the “Marshals” season finale.
In a sneak peek by People Magazine, two of the marshals, Cal, played by Logan Marshall-Green, and Belle, played by Arielle Kebbel are both shot in a surprise attack, leaving their fates unknown.
The season finale will also see Kayce protecting Rainwater after another assassination attempt. But as violence escalates and a militia launches an attack, Kayce realizes the threat facing Broken Rock is far larger than anyone originally believed, according to CBS.
The episode may also reveal whether Kayce decides to sell the remaining part of his family’s ranch.
Will there be a Season 2 of ‘Marshals?’
CBS renewed “Marshals” for a second season, which is already in production and is expected to return in Fall 2026 with a larger episode count.
How to watch ‘Marshals’?
The “Marshals” season finale airs at 8 p.m. local time on Sunday, May 24, on CBS.
It will be available to stream on Paramount+ for Premium plan subscribers at the same time, and for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the next day.
