Hideki Matsuyama is moving on to the next round.
After a first round where he shot even par, the 2021 Masters champion shot a 2-under 70 Friday and is T16. That positioning will keep Matsuyama in the mix for a second green jacket as he is far below the cutline.
Matsuyama has now made the cut in each of the past 12 tournaments going back to 2015. He also has nine top-25 finishes during that span. Last year, Matsuyama finished T21. He looks to be right on schedule with that so far through his 15th Masters appearance.
In the second round, Matsuyama recorded six birdies, including consecutive ones on Nos. 2 and 3 and 14 and 15 respectively. He also bogeyed four times in the round.
With two top-10 finishes over the last two months leading into the Masters at the WM Phoenix Open and AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Matsuyama entered Augusta this week with decent momentum.
