Karen Fukuhara on when The Rookie: North’s fate will be revealed
Karen Fukuhara recently revealed when fans can expect news about The Rookie: North’s future. The actress shared that the team will learn about the show’s fate soon. She told Collider, “We find out at the end of April, beginning of May.”
Fukuhara just wrapped filming on the pilot in Vancouver for the ABC spin-off. She plays a key role alongside lead star Jay Ellis in the new series. The show follows a middle-aged man joining the Pierce County Police Department as its oldest rookie. A traumatic home invasion motivates his career change in the upcoming project.
The actress also praised the environment on set during her interview with Collider. She highlighted the importance of strong leadership from a show’s lead actor. Fukuhara said, “It’s really important to have a good number one, and we have Jay Ellis.” She added that Ellis “is at the forefront of it all.”
Fukuhara also credited Nathan Fillion for setting the tone across The Rookie franchise. She called him “a wonderful human being” and noted their longstanding friendship. She explained, “Everything trickles down from the number one. How they conduct a set is going to be how the vibe of the crew is going to be.” Fillion has led the original series since its 2018 debut on ABC.
The Rookie: North features a strong ensemble cast beyond Fukuhara and Ellis. Janet Montgomery, known for her roles in New Amsterdam and 1923, also stars in the pilot. Chris Sullivan, who recently appeared in the sci-fi thriller Mercy, rounds out the cast. The series is yet to get a full season order.
ABC previously launched The Rookie: Feds in 2022, but canceled that spin-off after only one season.
