Satou Sabally on how Phoenix Mercury can come back in WNBA Finals
Phoenix Mercury forward Satou Sabally describes the best type of basketball that the team needs to play if they want to fight back in the WNBA Finals.
Phoenix Mercury star Satou Sabally is not expected to return for a second season with the team, per Front Office Sports’ Annie Costabile.
Sabally, who is an unrestricted free agent, is set to have meetings with multiple teams starting on Wednesday, April 8, when negotiations open. Sabally will be able to sign a new contract on Saturday, April 11.
The forward seemingly confirmed her departure on Instagram with a post saying, “My best year yet. Thank you Phoenix.”
Sabally was an integral part of the Mercury’s run to the 2025 WNBA Finals in her first season in Phoenix. In the Finals, she averaged 21.7 points before suffering a concussion during Game 3 and missing Game 4.
The 27-year-old formed a Big 3 with Kahleah Copper and Alyssa Thomas, averaging 16.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.3 steals.
The Mercury’s roster will look different, but the team extended qualifying offers to reserved free agents point guard Monique Akoa Makani, forward Natasha Mack, forward Kathryn Westbeld and forward Kiana Williams on April 7.
