Next week, millions of Social Security recipients across the United States are to be issued their benefits for April 2026, in the penultimate payment on the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) schedule for this month.
Who’s receiving Social Security on Wednesday, April 15?
The SSA is to pay out Social Security to beneficiaries born from the 11th to 20th of any month. (NB: If you claim based on someone else’s work record, the agency uses the other person’s date of birth.)
Of the 70.9 million people who claim Social Security in the U.S. – whether retirement, disability or survivor benefits – most are paid on the second, third or fourth Wednesday in each month.
In April 2026, this birthday-dependent payment cycle is:
- Born on 1st-10th of any month: Wednesday, April 8
- Born on 11th-20th of any month: Wednesday, April 15
- Born on 21st-31st of any month: Wednesday, April 22
How much are monthly Social Security benefits?
- Retired workers: $2,079.49
- Disabled workers: $1,634.51
- Survivor benefits: $1,624.37
(Average monthly benefit, per SSA figures.)
Who isn’t paid on the second, third or fourth Wednesday in April?
- Certain long-term recipients: April 3
Social Security beneficiaries who began claiming before May 1997 are paid on the third of each month.
- Twin beneficiaries: April 3
Social Security can be combined with Supplemental Security Income (SSI), a separate benefit for certain low-income individuals. Americans who receive both are paid Social Security on the third, with SSI sent out on the first.
How does Social Security pay monthly benefits?
Social Security beneficiaries can update their bank-account information using the SSA’s online my Social Security portal.
Benefits can be paid onto the Direct Express Card, a special debit card for federal disbursements made to people without a bank account. Sign up at 1-800-333-1795 or 1-800-772-1213, or at a Social Security office.
