Villanova University officials announced that NBC TODAY co-anchor Craig Melvin will deliver the commencement address for the Class of 2026 on Tuesday, May 19. The ceremony is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at Villanova Stadium, where the veteran journalist will also receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree.

The 183rd commencement marks a significant milestone for the university, honoring Melvin for his 25-year career in journalism. According to Villanova University, the event will move to the Finneran Pavilion as a contingency plan if the area experiences severe weather conditions.

Melvin currently serves as a co-anchor for the third hour of TODAY and hosts Dateline NBC. His professional background includes extensive reporting on national political conventions and major criminal cases, following his start at WIS-TV in Columbia, South Carolina, and WRC in Washington, D.C.

The journalist expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming event through a public statement regarding his selection as the keynote speaker for the graduating class.

"Honored and truly excited to share that I’ll be delivering the commencement address at Villanova University for the Class of 2026. See you in May, Wildcats," stated Craig Melvin, NBC News TODAY co-anchor.

Beyond his television roles, Melvin is an author of two books and serves on the board of the Colorectal Cancer Alliance. His appointment aligns with Villanova's Augustinian Catholic tradition of ethical leadership, as reported by the university's official press release.

The commencement proceedings will be accessible to a global audience through a live online stream. University officials noted that the two-day graduation schedule spans May 19 and 20, 2026.
