Hokies take no-hitter into seventh inning during marquee midweek win at Liberty

Senior catcher Henry Cooke went 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs to lead Virginia Tech (26-21), which effectively clinched its fifth Quadrant I victory of the 2026 season. Cooke batted in each of the Hokies’ first three runs – two on his two-run home run to left field during the top of the third inning – reaching base four times in addition to catching one runner stealing.

Seven distinct Virginia Tech players combined to produce the team’s 11 hits as the Hokies improved to 17-0 this season when outhitting their opponent. Pete Daniel homered from the ninth spot in the batting order, powering a solo home run that led off the visitors’ two-run fifth inning. Freshman second baseman Ethan Ball accounted for two hits and two RBIs while Sam Gates went 2-for-5 with two RBIs.

Southpaw starter Madden Clement logged two and one-third scoreless innings for Virginia Tech ahead of right-handed reliever Ethan Grim, who earned the winning decision by adding another two and two-thirds scoreless innings. Logan Eisenreich blanked Liberty (35-14) during the sixth inning before the Hokies tacked on two more runs during the seventh inning to lead, 7-0.
