Italy's Marche region hit by 3.8 magnitude earthquake

No reports of damage or injury from earthquake.

The central Italian region of Marche was shaken by a 3.8-magnitude earthquake, near the Adriatic town of Fermo, in the early hours of Monday 5 January.

The earthquake occurred at 03.31 at a depth of 24 kilometres, with its epicentre two km south-east of Sant'Angelo in Pontano, Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) said in a statement.

Multiple seismic events have been recorded in the area since 03.00 on Monday, including a 3.1-magnitude earthquake at 03.38 and a 3-magnitude quake at 05.15.
