The New York Knicks are feeling good about themselves after securing a 108-102 victory in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals on Wednesday. As a result, they go up 2-0 over the Philadelphia 76ers.

Nevertheless, head coach Mike Brown noted that the Knicks  as the series heads to Philadelphia for Game 3 on Friday. One of which is ensuring that Karl-Anthony Towns doesn’t become a liability on fouls.

Brown stressed that at the post-game press conference, per SNY Knicks Videos. Earlier in the game, Towns got into foul trouble with three fouls in the first two minutes. Brown stated that he is a must-have.

“He’s an important player for us,” Brown said. “It’s no secret that we need him on the floor.”

Despite finishing with four fouls, Towns came away with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists. He also shot 6-for-8 (75%) from the field.

During the regular season, Towns led the league in offensive fouls with 65. He also came in second in total fouls with 223. Oftentimes, the fouls are either due to moving screens or technical fouls.

The Knicks were fortunate to pull it off on Wednesday night. Towns could have easily gotten them into trouble without him on the floor. After all, Towns is one of their top playmakers alongside Jalen Brunson. Towns must control himself on defense when it comes to not wanting to swipe at the ball the right way. Plus, he needs to control the paint better and not try to reach on drives.

On the offensive side, he needs to avoid setting screens with his elbows and shoulders, as well as not to “hook” defenders when coming off a screen.
