FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY UPDATE: A Tornado Watch is in effect for central Alabama until 11 p.m. this evening, though some counties could be removed before then.

While an isolated tornado risk remains, the stronger tornado parameters still appear to be farther south and west. We’ve also been tracking a tornado-warned storm near the Montgomery area.

In addition to the tornado risk, storms this evening may produce hail, damaging wind gusts and localized flooding. As rain and storms fill-in across the area tonight, this should help limit instability and gradually lower the overall severe risk late tonight.

WHAT’S NEXT: We should be able to end the First Alert Weather Day very early Thursday, with scattered morning showers tapering off.

A spotty shower is possible far south Friday, then scattered showers could expand farther north Friday night into Saturday. Saturday won’t be a total washout, just keep the umbrella nearby.

The system responsible for tonight’s storms will stall to the south and eventually lift north again as another disturbance moves out of the Southwest. That will bring an increasing chance of scattered showers and storms on Mother’s Day.

No severe weather is expected at this time, but keep an eye out for scattered development, especially during the afternoon. A stronger cold front arrives Monday bringing an end to rain chances early, and we could be talking about 40s again by Tuesday morning.
