First Alert Weather Day today through Thursday morning: Today is a First Alert Weather Day, and we continue to closely monitor the potential for severe weather across Central Alabama.

The Storm Prediction Center continues an Enhanced Risk (three out of five) for much of the WBRC viewing area, and confidence is increasing that storms will likely begin developing as we head into the afternoon and evening.

The potential for severe storms could develop early this afternoon into our northwestern counties (Marion, Lamar, Pickens, Greene, Fayette, Tuscaloosa), then the Birmingham metro midafternoon through around midnight and south and east Alabama late evening through the overnight hours.

If storms can remain somewhat isolated before forming into a line tonight, they could produce damaging winds, large hail and an isolated tornado.

As we move deeper into tonight, storms are expected to organize into a larger line with damaging straight-line winds becoming the primary concern, though a few tornadoes may still be possible as it pushes south and east overnight.

We’re also watching the potential for heavy rainfall and localized flash flooding today into early Thursday morning, with several inches of rain possible in a short amount of time in spots.

Thursday is also a First Alert Weather Day as lingering storms and heavy rain concerns could hang on into the morning.
