UTICA, N.Y. -- A Utica photographer is competing in a national art contest that could help support local youth and veterans programs.

Brian Lazore was accepted into "Johnny Depp Presents: The People's Artist," where $25,000 is at stake.

Lazore is asking for votes to help him win.

If he wins, he plans to upgrade his equipment and support Utica Royalties and the Utica Center for Development.

Voting is open until May 14.

Lazore could also have his work featured in an exhibit in Los Angeles and in a magazine.
