The Friday, March 27, meeting between No. 2 seed UConn and No. 3 seed Michigan State is a notable one, even among what is quickly becoming an elite March Madness field.
The Huskies and Spartans‘ Sweet 16 game features two of only three coaches remaining in the 2026 Men’s NCAA Tournament who have won an NCAA Tournament championship (the other being Rick Pitino at St. John’s), and is the only game to pit them against each other in the Sweet 16.

Dan Hurley, of course, is seeking his third championship in four seasons after leading the Huskies to titles in 2023 and 2024 before a second-round exit vs. eventual national champion Florida in 2025. His Spartan contemporary, Tom Izzo, led Michigan State to the championship in 2000, which — despite its dominance in this tournament — is the most recent national title for the Big Ten Conference.
