Officials said the crash involved serious injuries.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — A fiery crash shut down Interstate 71 in both directions in Delaware County on Saturday.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the crash happened just before 6:30 p.m. on I-71 near the U.S. 36 and state Route 37 interchange, located by the Tanger Outlets Columbus shopping mall.
Video from Ohio Department of Transportation traffic cameras showed flames and heavy smoke coming from at least one vehicle involved in the collision. According to OSHP dispatchers, twelve vehicles were involved in the crash.
As of 7 p.m., the dispatchers said three people had been transported to area hospitals in unknown condition. In an update around 10:45 p.m., OSHP said the crash was fatal, but did not clarify the number of fatalities.
The northbound lanes of I-71 near the crash are shut down as of 10:45 p.m. Saturday.
The crash remains under investigation.
