Tyla and labelmate are bringing the Y2K nostalgia in their new collab, “She Did It Again.”
The track blends R&B with pop elements and pays homage to one of the greatest pop stars of the 21st century, Britney Spears herself. The duo trade verses on the lead single from Tyla’s upcoming sophomore album, A-Pop. “I’m addictive, baby, what you want me to do?/Not a quick fix, one hit might ruin you,” warns Tyla before Larsson drops the throwback line over the beat: “Put a man on his knees, not trying to tease/Oops, did it again like Britney.”
The song’s music video keeps things sleek, featuring Tyla and Larsson dancing through a contrast of desert architecture and waterfalls. “This felt like the most natural thing to ever happen,” Larsson said in a message to Rolling Stone. “I love that girl, both in the booth and in real life. I’m so excited for the world to hear this and dance to it all summer, cause personally I can’t help but to move my waist.” Tyla also sent a quick note and quipped, “It’s A*POP Emergency!”
“She Did It Again” arrives amid another wildly succesful year for Tyla, who garnered four American Music Awards nominations in May including Best Female R&B Artist, Best Afrobeats Artist, and — for her hit “Chanel” — Social Song of the Year and Best Music Video.
In 2024, Tyla won her first Grammy with the inaugural Best African Music Performance award for her breakthrough track, “Water.” Last year, she took home her second Grammy for Best African Music Performance with “Push 2 Start” — the hit record found on the deluxe edition of her debut LP, Tyla+.
For her part, Larsson scored her first Grammy nod in February in the Best Dance Pop Recording category for Midnight Sun. The singer is also set to launch a run of summer festival shows including BBC’s Radio 1 Big Weekend, Lollapalooza in Chicago, and more.
