The walking lot will close in early May for a new public safety building.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The walking lot at John Glenn Columbus International Airport will close in May to make room for a new building as part of the airport’s terminal expansion.

According to Columbus Regional Airport Authority, the lot will close permanently on May 4 to make room for a new public safety building. The building is part of CMH Next, the airport’s new terminal project. The safety building will hold the public safety communications center and feature offices and training facilities.

Airport authorities encourage travelers who often use the walking lot to use the valet service or other available parking options, including a parking garage or the red and green shuttle lots.

“We know the Walking Lot has its loyal fans and understand this one might sting a bit. We’ll miss it too,” airport representatives wrote in a Facebook post. “This change is part of the exciting progress happening across the airport — bringing us closer to a new terminal and opening day.”

The $2 billion terminal project will add a new, nearly 1-million-square-foot terminal. The project also features a new parking garage connected by a pedestrian bridge. According to airport representatives, the terminal is meant to “meet the demands” of the growing Columbus region.

The new Columbus airport terminal is scheduled to open in early 2029.
