It looks like things are changing in Edgewater this fall.
Fire Country is wrapping up season 4 on May 22, and fans have been fully invested in Bode Leone’s (Max Thieriot) journey as a firefighter at Station 42. As he and his fellow first responders navigate the challenges of balancing rescues with their personal lives, the show continues to make an impression on viewers each week. And it’s clear folks always want more, given how the show got renewed for season 5 on CBS for this fall.
However, fans will not like what the show’s future holds. As Deadline reported on May 1, season 5 will have a shorter episode count. Meaning: while Fire Country season 4 has 20 episodes, season 5 will be cut by almost half, with only 13.
When news about the changes hit the internet, it was clear that fans were not thrilled.
“NOOO I love Fire Country! So it has been extremely successful but you’re going to cut episodes?! Make it make sense! This is such disappointing news,” one person lamented on Instagram. “Love FIRE COUNTRY please don’t shorten it !!!❤️🔥,” another begged. “Nooo! It’s one of the last shows with longer seasons! We want more not less!!!” a different follower added.
There is a good reason for the shorter season. As Deadline indicated, CBS has many scripted series premiering during the 2026 to 2027 season, including Sheriff Country, NCIS,Cupertino, and Einstein. The news also comes as Fire Country is undergoing a behind-the-scenes change, with Eric Guggenheim replacing Tia Napolitano as the showrunner.
No matter the case, we’ll tune in for whatever Fire Country has in store!
