Team news incoming: Tudor poised to hand Kinsky his chance

Antonin Kinsky is expected to start Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League last-16 tie against Atletico Madrid ahead of No 1 goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

Despite the fact Kinsky has not made an appearance for Spurs since the League Cup defeat to Newcastle United last October, interim head coach Igor Tudor is believed to be ready to hand the 22-year-old a huge chance.

Tottenham are yet to confirm their team for the match in Madrid and there had been rumours that Tudor was ready to start Kinsky in the Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace.

Vicario kept his place for the Palace game, but conceded three goals and the expectation is that Kinsky will now be given the chance to impress with Tottenham having conceded two or more goals in each of their last nine Premier League games.

Tottenham complained to the Premier League about a social media post that mocked Vicario’s distribution in the defeat to Fulham that was later taken down and the Italian’s kicking was again erratic against Palace.

Telegraph Sport revealed on Monday that Tottenham are plotting a huge summer overhaul and that Vicario is one of a number of players whose futures are in doubt past this season.

Vicario was signed by Spurs from Empoli for an initial fee of £17.2m in June 2023 and he has made over 100 appearances for the club.

Kinsky was signed from Slavia Prague last January and made 10 appearances over the second half of the season. The Czech is thought to have wanted to leave the club on loan this January, but was denied a move and is now expected to get a big chance to shine.

His only two appearances so far this season both came in the League Cup, against Newcastle and in the 3-0 victory over Doncaster.
